Coming across Mikael de Poissy’s body of work today felt like being a hungry man at an all-you-can-eat buffet.

The man’s just got so much f’n eye candy and an unequivocal style that takes me back to days when I’d endlessly peruse the Florentine streets in search of inspiration.

The way in which he chooses to outline his stone figures creates a contrast that almost leaps off the skin. And his ability to intermingle these masonry specters with breezy hand lettering intensifies the juxtaposition of new school and “old-world portraiture”.

Poissy is master of his own domain at a France based shop and judging from his FB profile has quite the wicked sense of humor to add to his repertoire.

Daily obsession, Mkael de Poissy. http://www.tattoo.fr/home.html

Mr. Brian Thomas Wilson is stepping up his game. Despite his appearance, the man is cranking out some spectacular works that lend themselves to a more feminine aesthetic.

It’s really the lower right hand piece that has me “at hello,” with its integration of the golden triangle along side a cornucopia of natural textures, floral embellishments and geometric elements.

In many ways, Wilson’s recent developments remind me of a classic Flatmo approach to outlining arrangements of realism.

Friday seems perfectly appropriate for whimsical figures capable of telling a good story and that’s exactly why Brian Wilson is today’s daily obsession.

I could endlessly pay homage to Ms. Kelly Doty.

She is unquestionably an idol like no other, who’s inceptively emblazoned the industry with a palette that quite possibly re-defines the capabilities of the medium.

I’ve covered Doty before, but not until recently did I come across an article in International Tattoo Art that told the story of how Doty got her start in tattooing. Apparently her grandfather has unconditionally supported her endeavors from day one. From his encouragement to purchasing a first machine, to finding a positive shop to support her growing clientele without giving up her identity as an artist, the man has been Kelly’s numero uno fan.

What struck me most about Grandpa Doty is how perfectly I was able to parallel it with my Gran-daddy & daughter situation in regards to all pursuits of happiness.

Kelly, who nerds-out on Harry Potter, recently threw a Potter themed fundraiser for the Emily Williston Memorial Library raising a grand total of 4Gs. Looks like Grandpa Doty has an even more massive influence on his dearest granddaughter than the old man ever imagined.

Listening to way too much Metal today has me grinding on Andrzej Lenczuk and his prodigious portfolio of horror.

Hailing from the chili nether of Walbryzch Poland, Mr. Lenczuk is the primary keeper of Tattoo Alien studios.

Being an immense fan of Mr. Paul Booth, there’s a thematic similarity in Lenczuk’s body of art. Having said that there are two major differentiators: his heavy integration of bio-mech and Maori influence. These artistic liberties give each piece a whole other facet of visual impact that is viciously breathtaking.

There’s no doubt that he’s a man aware of the human form, as each piece appears to enhance the body on which it is rendered. These days, Andrzej is doing quite a bit of globe trotting, so look out for this guy to keep on taking over the tattoo map, one city at a time.

Unquestionably a daily obsession. Mr. Andrzej Lenczuk. http://www.tattooalien.com

Abstract would be too literal, I’m going to go with trippy-ass-shit on this one.

Mr. Chris Dingwell has an amazing capability to transcend mediums in his unique style. The way in which he paints, reminiscent of Franz Marc or Van Gogh, translates unequivocally to the canvas of skin.

The subject matter of Dingwell’s compositions seem divided in nature, almost schizophrenic. His pallets contrast with his subject matter in a way that makes me feel like I’m watching Willy Wonka…the one with Gene Wilder, not Johnny Depp.

“In my early years I (Chris) used a lot of scribbly lines and strong textural drawing effects to cover up for my shitty tattooing, and I still do that today!”

I greatly admire Chris for turning his admitted handicap into a signature method of tattooing, that has been so successfully reflected in his body of work over the past 15 years.

A hallucinogenic cheers to daily obsession, Mr. Chris Dingwell. http://www.chrisdingwell.com/

The works of Fredrik Reinel have shot my heart down in cold blood today.

I don’t think I’ve ever had quite the privilege of covering a young gun with such immense potential. His sketches really speak for themselves and the way in which he captures his own musings using Instagram only adds to their mysterious appeal.

Reinel, who’s based in Stockholm’s glorious Evil Eye Tattoo, appears to exceed in black and gray realism, but counters this observation with sketches that reflect the realm of neo-traditional.

Surely this new age prodigy deserves a watchful eye, so get in with him now while he’s hot-off-the-press.

Daily obsession. Mr. Fredrik Reinel. http://www.myspace.com/rsngtdt2

I feel dirty.

I blame Dan Santoro for this, because he’s initiating my love affair with traditional tattooing. In truth, it may not be traditional. It may very well be Dan himself that I find myself so deeply bewitched by.

The man is a cornucopia of interests. A whimsical mess of bullet proof executions rooted in simplicity and human insight…in comedy really.

Santoro currently calls, the somewhat elite Smith Street Tattoo Parlor, home. Sharing the space with demigods like Bert Krak, Steve Boltz, and Eli Quinters. He’s been known to traipse the streets of NY with greats like Hooper himself and has managed to carve out a sought after niche for himself in the industry.

I want to bask in the world that is Sr. Daniel. And as “over influenced” as he feels about his surroundings and the people in it, is the exact sentiment he refracts back into the universe.

You’re my hero Dan Santoro and inconsequently also today’s daily obsession. http://teenageghostsnyc.com/blog1/

Josh Woods is best known for his psychedelic illustrative specimens that look like a unicorn vomited a rainbow.

His work has always been high contrast, wide pallet and you can count on each composition being arresting in every possible way. Woods’ style reminds me of Ed “Big Daddy” Roth, but executed in the medium of skin.

Recently, I’ve been seeing Woods do more non-illustrative work that lends itself to the genre of high def realism. It’s fucking fantastic. I want more. If these pieces came in a gumball machine, I’d be the relentless kid pumping it full of quarters.

You can find this mad scientist at Black 13 Tattoo Parlor in Nashville, amongst fellow artists like Ian White, Marty McEven, Ryan Thomas, Steve Martin and the infamous Timmy B.

I look forward to the evolution of daily obsession, Mr. Josh Woods. http://black13tattoo.com/

Hot damn! I feel like I’m mad stumbling on some scintillating realism this morning.

Let’s start with Mr. Ricky Bottino of Monfalcone, Italy. To be frank, I’m not that impressed by his overall body of work, but he surely has me fixated on the precision and cleanliness of his pallet.

Every piece has a definite focal point that’s executed with an immense smoothness and engages the viewer from first glance. His technique of using the simplicity of shading really works to his advantage.

I’m looking forward to seeing where this daily obsession with take his art to further define his place in the industry.

The happy stumblings continue with absolute prodigy Antonio Proietti.

I’ve been “flipping” through his online showcase with quivering fingertips for the past hour, completely and utterly transfixed. His black and gray is gripping with an immense focus on human hands. He crafts skin and fingernails like a mad man…obsessed.

Proietti’s color pieces are no different. His high def palette only enhances how feverishly real each subject is rendered. Antonio’s compositions makes me feel like I’m watching Manson’s ‘Sweet Dreams’ music video for the first time. Like an obscure train wreck, I want to look away but can’t.

You can find Proietti at Angel’s Vision tattoo in Villa Adriana, where he spends his time basking in the fine arts of the Italian masters and death metal music.

Cheers to daily obsession, Antonio Proietti. http://www.myspace.com/antonioproietti#!/antonioproietti/photos

ouishoshanna’s re-blog of work by Rafel DeLalande caught my eye this afternoon, when I felt stuck on high contrast realism.

My infatuation with Thomas Hooper was rekindled with every archival introspection of DeLalande’s. In truth, I know nothing about him and am having difficulty tracking him down outside of his digital source: http://lalloronatattoo.tumblr.com

What has me reeling, is this gentleman’s ability to showcase his world of influences by intertwining them with art samples. Rafel is a visceral cornucopia of genres, that I can’t quite pinpoint, but has, no doubt, broken ground with a definitive style of illustration all his own.

Get hot on DeLalande’s path before he officially becomes an enigma.

My sweet daily obsession, Mr. Rafel DeLalande.

Tattoo Society (29):

Many tattoo artist are extraordinary painters, yet that skill is rarely publicly recognized. Does that cause you turmoil? If you had the choice, would you rather be a “conventional” artist or remain in the unconventional world of tattooing?

Jeff Gogue:

I’m in a constant turmoil, not because of money or my house or my bills, but mostly because I want to be remembered.

I mean by the world, not just my kids and their kids. I want someone to read about me a hundred and fifty years from now. That won’t come from doing a good color portrait on someone’s calf. The closest I can hope for is to have a body of work throughout my life that is worthy of notation.I think there needs to be skill, but more importantly, there needs to be a message that resonates with people and through generations.

I could go on forever on this question, but basically, I want to be an artist, be it paint, or tattoo ink. It would be really perfect to split the time evenly between the skin and paint. I truly love both and both teach me so much about the other. It’s amazing.

The musings of Johan Finne are spellbinding. He elicits nothing short of a “fuck yeah” reaction and his mastery has paved the path for some of Sweden’s finest.

Like Kore Flatmo, he prefers to work in a palette that’s 3/4 black and gray and 1/4  warm tone that create a definite hierarchy in his subjects. He is one of many masters of the human skull, but holds the key discerning factor of integrating other elements seamlessly into the structural minutia of each cranium.

His back pieces are simply epic, paved with subjects that tell a story and have a fluid way of living on each individual.

Johan Finne is a textbook master and it only pains me that it took him this long to make it onto my list of daily obsessions.

I couldn’t help but triple-post the monster mastery of abstract Kamil Terczynski.

His online gallery doesn’t do his pieces justice. They are legendary, with detail that’s reminiscent of the Der Blaue Reiter movement.

His compositions weave in and out of one another in a milky juxtaposition, with such visual impact that they inevitably render the eye displaced. The subjects of the composition are so varied, but stylistically consistent. Kamil is a palette curator, choosing tones that will optimize his subjects.

London based Terczynski is an independent master and likes to hold an occasional global court with other big influencers such as Zoltan Krizsan and Florian Karg.

Clearly a master of his craft and worthy of being daily obsession, Mr. Kamil Terczynski.

There are times when I think that I’ve run out of things to talk about. And then I slap myself in the face for thinking such fucked up thoughts, because it’s artists like Qi Xu Long that make spitting mad venom worth it.

My pirate’s mouth is getting the best of me, so bare with: This mad scientist’s shit is straight bomb. The values in his work create such deep and realistic compositions, even when the subjects are illustrative. Working in primarily black and gray, Qi Xu or Little Dragon, crafts works of horror, very reminiscent of old man Tyrrell’s.

This makes perfect sense, since his current roosting place is Last Rites, kingdom of the one and only Paul Booth. That can only mean that the Little Dragon is getting the training he needs to have an epic career.

Watch out for daily obsession, Qi Xu Long.

My obvious hiatus from undefinedink wasn’t intended to be a hiatus at all. In fact, I thought, in all frankness, that I was done with this baby. For no particular reason other then a focus change. I thought that the love, the spark if you will, that I “had” for tattoo culture had simply smoldered. I was ready to make undefinedink a thing of my past.

But alas, I woke up this morning and thought: why? An individual can have many passions in life, even if they are as different as a deep appreciation for the greats of the tattoo world and running marathons…which just so happen to be mine.

So I’m going to breath new life into undefinedink. By starting with a gentleman I promised to profile so many moons ago: The kind and patient, Mr. Demian Cervera.

Demian and I touched base through his long time friend and client, John Deschner. Like myself, John is a tattoo enthusiast and curator and swears by Demian’s unique musings.

I found Demian’s styles to vary incredibly between his black and gray and his color. His color work is exceptionally influenced by graffiti, but yet his black and gray has a more whimsically illustrative quality to it. I feel like his Venezuelan roots literally sing though these monochromatic spectacles.

The man has guest tattooed all over the globe along side great names like Richie Clarke, but you can find him at his own digs at Fulcrum Tattoo, a private residence by appointment only.

I am stoked to make Demian Cervera, a first in a long time, obsession of the day.

In the spirit of keepin’ it short and sweet today, this smitten kitten is honored to introduce Valencia’s golden boy, Mr. Miguel Angel Bohigues.

This boy continues to bringing the heavy. With absolutely exquisite black and gray multi-subject compositions to the industry table, Miguel’s work is nothing short of explosive.

If you look at the journey of his portfolio over the last few years, his evolution as an artist is almost exponential. It’s really quite intreguing how fast this gentleman has developed his craft. My speculation is, now more then ever, is the time to nab a space in his client roster, before he completely blows up.

An uncompromised daily obsession, Miguel Angel Bohigues.
